Rad's Training Session

Post by Raddaya on Sun Jul 04, 2010 9:38 am

Rad wondered if he could possibly win against one of the greatest professors. He reasoned that since everyone was low leveled, there wasn't much room for strategy. He gulped as he sent out Flamechic, who looked at his new trainer. Rad nodded at the Torchic, who seemed perfectly ready for battle.

Rad instead decided to calm himself, looking at the beautiful greenery and awesome views. He took several deep breaths, before nodding at Birch. "All right, I'm ready...", he said as Flamechic chirped "Cheec!". He waited...

As the two of them, Birch and Rad appear on Route 101, things
"Well, it's good to see that your new Pokémon likes you quite a bit for just starting, but we should start with the basics. For one thing, in the wilderness and routes, you can find many Pokémon and trainers, but here, you don't really find that many trainers to start with. However, the fact is that with your own Pokémon it's much safer. Once you get off the regular path, there are plenty of Pokémon to find. Granted, in the past few years thanks to immigration from other regions, there are Pokémon from other regions around here, but it doesn't matter, i'll explain that later. The first thing you need to know is how to battle. You see, when a trainer challenges another trainer to a Pokémon battle, it's common courtesy, unless in extreme circumstances to accept their challenge. Granted, I haven't done this in a while, and my kid is a bit better at this, but at any rate i'm ready if you are- I'll show you the basics of battling before I explain, so prepare yourself!"

Grinning, he quickly adds.

"And don't worry about injuries, I've got enough items to heal your Pokémon afterward as well. At any rate, shall we begin? Whismur, I choose you! Rad, I know this is your first battle, so you and uh Flamechic can order first."

Whismur grins eagerly as it watches Rad and Torchic prepare themselves.

Rad looks at the Whismur. He recognizes it, his father's friend's son once had it.

"Hmm, don't worry Flamechic, go on the offense! Growl to utilize it's extreme hearing and then Scratch it!"

Birch grins, listening to the orders given before he turns to Whismur.

"Well Rad, I have to tell you, that you're smart for noticing that my Whismur's Soundproof isn't perfect. but then again, it may be luck, who knows. But at any rate, Whismur, Howl to drown out the Growl, then Pound!"

Things start off quick, as noise rises through the area, as Whismur's Howling drowns out Flamechic's Growl, but the moves cancel themselves out, except that Whismur is a bit more confident. Not concerned, Flamechic charges in with claws upraised, but in a touch of bad luck, it's Scratch only nicks an ear, as Whismur Pounds painfully with a strong uppercut, sending the fire type sprawling. While things aren't bad off yet, Flamechic looks visibly pained as it struggles to its feet, before grinning eagerly. Both Pokémon look somewhat fresh however. Noticing this, Birch grins before he begins yet again.

"Well, you are quite skilled at this, so let's see you deal with this then- Whismur, Astonish, then another Pound!"

What will you do?

Rad cursed as he saw his tactics failing. "Don't worry Flamechic, we can do it! Try a double Scratch!"

Things get interesting as Whismur gets into Flamechic's face, Astonishing it as he slams into it for decent damage. However, Flamechic takes the opportunity to get a painful Scratch onto Whismur's features, dealing solid damage. Feeling confident, Flamechic whips its other leg around in another Scratch, but Whismur gets its own hit in, and for whatever reason, the Pound and Scratch collide before exploding, knocking both Pokémon back. Torchic again looking worse off than its opponent, but Whismur isn't in perfect shape either as Birch begins to laugh.

"Now this is a good battle, you're doing well for yourself Rad, but it's your move now!"

Torchic grins, but it's looking beat up, either way, it's still going to continue as a loud and angry murmur reaches your ears, it's coming from the forest beside the two of you, I wonder what it is...

Rad whips around, looking at the forest. "Wait, what was that?" he mutters to himself as he turns around, looking at Flamechic...
"Torchic, Growl your hardest and then Scratch quickly! We can do this one!"

Birch grimaces in concern, but shakes it off as he turns back to the battle.

"I'm not entirely sure, sounds like some kind of stampede or fight, but it's pretty far away, we should be fine. However, at the moment, Torchic is not. Whismur, Howl again, then Hyper Voice!"

Things don't go well for Torchic, as its Growl doesn't seem to work this time, Soundproofing working somewhat, but the Howl simply strengthens Whismur even more, but Torchic does something that in hindsight was strategic. But not entirely, as it Scratches Whismur hard across the face, landing a Critical Hit! However, Whismur, looking pretty angry launches a close range Hyper Voice, slamming Torchic across the field and into a tree, though it looks pretty beat up after that last scratch. Unfortunately for Rad and Torchic, Torchic falls to one knee, incredibly pained after that blast, but manages to stand up as Birch orders again.

"Well, time to wrap this up, Whismur, Smokescreen, then Double Team!"

As Whismur launches smoke out of its mouth, Rad looks down at Torchic. What will you do?

Rad bites his lip, looking down at Torchic. That didn't go so well.

"Quick Torchic, before it can do anything run to it and Scratch it twice! We can do this, pal!"

"Whismur, let's wrap this up, Hyper Voice, then Pound one last time."

Professor Birch was oddly prophetic, shocked at his changing of orders as Torchic charges headfirst into the smoke, not realizing that the Whismur it would scratch was only a clone, and while its trainer could see what was going to happen, could not call out in time. The real Whismur had leapt into the air, and before Torchic notices this, the thing he next sees is another Hyper Voice, which crashes down on the bird, and clears the smoke. Torchic is blasted flat, but struggles to rise, just as Whismur notices and dives down for the kill, allowing his height to increase the strength of his attack. Torchic sees this, and tries to stand to meet it. However, it stumbles, the Scratch missing and another dust cloud appears as Whismur collides with the bird. When the dust clears, Torchic is clearly unable to battle, but Whismur doesn't look too hot either. Worried, Professor Birch rushes over with a Full Restore and a Revive, and sooner than you would have believed, TOrchic is back on its feet.

Level Up for Torchic!

However, as Professor Birch begins to talk to you, a cry interupts.

"WEEDLE!"

And before WHismur can do anything, a barrage of Poison Stings slam into it, knocking it out. The Weedle then screams in excitement, and begins to glow as Torchic leaps from your feet. As it was new to evolving, this Weedle takes a good look at it's new body, but realizes, that as a Kakuna it was much, much stronger. Before Professor Birch can do anything, Kakuna launches some Poison Stings at him, causing him to leap away as Torchic growls angrily. It seems that Kakuna is waiting for a fight... What will you do?

Rad, shocked, watched as the battle was a tie. He gave an exultant pump of his hand in joy....before a Weedle pwned Whismur with a Poison Sting and promptly evolved.

He called Flamechic to him and said, "Hey buddy, you're going to need this, that looks like one tough Kakuna." Saying this, he pulled a TM Flame Wheel out of his pocket, and helped the Torchic learn the move.

"Good boy! Now start intimidating it with a double Growl!"

(OOC: wasn't a Tie, Torchic fainted, Whismur did not...)

anyway, things are interesting, as Torchic and Rad prepare themselves, as Rad places a red disc on Torchic's head, and grins as the fire type glows for a second. However, Kakuna doesn't look amused, and as the bird faces it, it begins to Harden up, it glowing in a metallic sheen as Flamechic angrily Growls at it. Kakuna doesn't seem to have had an effect, but it did do something. as Kakuna takes the time to launch itself at Torchic, Tackling it. Torchic grumbles as it gets back to its feet, before Growling angrily yet again. Either way, Torchic is the only one to take damage, but it's also fresher than Kakuna, who has a defense boost. It's attack seems to have been lowered however.

"Good job, Flamechic! Flame Wheel, fast! Then Scratch it!"

Rad could only cross his fingers and hope...

OOC: Oh, since Flamechic got a level I thought it was a tie.

Kakuna simply grimaces when it notices the fire forming around Torchic, and at that point, it realizes that it had no time to do anything, but charge right back with another Tackle, causing a collision, then small explosion as the bug slams into the Flame Wheel. Looking conciderably singed, Kakuna doesn't give up, launching a barrage of Poison Stings that slam into Flamechic's face, stopping his scratch cold. Granted, things are looking good for Flamechic, but as Kakuna continues its assault, launching some sticky String Shot towards him, you have to wonder if this Pokémon actually has a plan or something...

Meanwhile, While Flamechic looks pretty healthy, Kakuna took quite a bit of damage, but is still kicking, and energy wise, Kakuna is a bit fresher...

Things don't go well, as Kakuna grins before launching another Poison Sting barrage, which slams into Flamechic for solid damage. However, the Torchic slams into Kakuna with more Flame Wheels, as the first slams into Kakuna with no issue at all, and Flamechic charges in for another one, one that Kakuna barely manages to meet with a Tackle. However, this time, Kakuna does not get up nearly as fast, and as it struggles to stand, Rad feels something hit his hand, and looking over at Professor Birch, who's shouting frantically..

"Rad, throw a PokéBall at that Kakuna before it recovers, hurry, hurry!"

Rad looks down at the PokéBall, and what will he do with it?...

Rad looks as the Kakuna is beaten down by repeated super effective attacks. He looks at Professor Birch, who yells at him to throw a PokéBall at the Kakuna. He hesitates, then decides to take Birch's advice.

"Pokeball, go!"

The PokéBall slams into Kakuna, and shakes a bit. once, twice, and after a while, a third time. Soon afterwards, it clicks shut, and stops moving.

Congratulations: you've caught a Lv.4 Kakuna!

As Professor Birch runs over to you, he quickly sprays Full Restores on both Pokémon, before sighing in relief.

"Well Rad, that was an excellent job, and it seems that you've caught a powerful Pokémon. Either way, you are ready for the remainder of your challenge, and because of that, I'll give you some free stuff. Here's 2000 PokéDollars, and 5 more PokéBalls, for you. However, here's a nice feature that your PokéDex has- if you wouldn't mind..."

Professor Birch takes Rad's PokéDex, and after scanning Kakuna's PokéBall, the machine begins to speak.

Pokémon Species: Kakuna. Level 5, Ability: Shed Skin. Attacks: Tackle, Poison Sting, Harden and String Shot.

As the voice ends, Birch explains.

"You see Rad, your PokéDex can locate Pokémon in the vicinity, but other than telling you what is in the general area, and level, it doesn't do much. But regardless, the path to Oldale Town is straight down this road, and your Pokémon should be fine, since they are healed up. So I wish you the best of luck on your journey."

As Birch and Whismur walk off, Rad tries to decide if he wishes to explore more of ROute 101, or to continue on to Oldale Town instead...

Advance to Oldale Town
(If you want)
