Stop - Fishytime!

Post by DaveTheFishGuy on Wed Oct 06, 2010 2:10 am

While your spending time in Jubilife City, don't forget to pop into the Pokétch Company building and answer their quick quiz. Should you do so you will be able to obtain your very own Pokétch and should become highly useful if not for anything but the use of the Coin Flip Program!

Post a new thread to continue your journey.

Happy with his new TM, Dave looked about for where to go next. However, finding a map, he instead saw another advert.

"HEY! YOU! FANCY HAVING THE LATEST ACCESSORY? WITH SO MANY APPLICATIONS IT MAKES AN iPHONE LOOK LIKE A CHILD'S TOY? THEN YOU NEED POKÉTCH! DROP INTO THE HEAD OFFICE FOR YOUR CHANCE TO ENTER A COMPETITION, AND YOU COULD JUST WALK AWAY WITH A FREE ONE!"

"Huh, sounds interesting..." the trainer mused. "What do you think, Pix?" he asked the bundle of pink in his arms. The Cleffa, however, was suffering from the condition of all children - distracted by the bright colours and pictures on the advert, he'd agree to anything. Dave sighed, before smiling. "Alright then, we'll go check it out before we leave." he conceeded, before walking off to find the head office.

After a few minutes walking about like an idiot, Dave managed to find the building, which was a fairly grand office high-rise. Popping in, he walked up to what he assumed was a reception desk, before addressing the girl behind it. "Excuse me? Hi, I saw the advert, and I'm here for the Pokétch competition. Can you help me?"

The receptionist behind the desk didn't say a single word nor even look up at Dave as he motioned towards her desk.

"Er... Sorry about that." A voice came from Dave's left. He looked over to see a girl identical to the one sitting behind the desk in front of him. The girl to Dave's left walked towards the girl sitting behind the desk and took out a tiny little remote with a single button on it. She pointed it at the girl behind the desk and clicked the button which resulted in a laser shooting the girl behind the desk in the side which quickly made her image fuzzy to Dave's eyes. After a quick second she disappeared.

"That was a hologram." The girl chuckled nervously. "Pretty cutting-edge technology that we're working on here at the Poketch company. Just don't tell my boss about that, I'm not exactly supposed to use this to slack off of work." The girl said, winking at Dave with a playful smile on her face. "Anyways, you said something about the advert outside? By the looks of you, you must be a Pokémon trainer."

Without continuing further the girl backed her chair up a bit and opened a drawer underneath her desk before lifting out a piece of paper and handing it to Dave. By the looks of the paper it was a flier. Flipping it over there was instructions on how to complete the company's competition.

"Hello there aspiring Pokémon trainers!

Located all around Jubilife are various trees. Within three trees will be a hollowed out hole in which a rolled up piece of paper will be located. On the piece of paper will be a question. Once you have found and answered all three questions you will return to the Poketch headquarters and inform the receptionist that you are ready to present your answers. She will escort you to the chairman of the company whom you will present your answers too. If you get all three correct you will be presented with your very own Poketch!

Do your best trainers, and have fun!"

The flier was filled with colorful pictures of Pokémon and Pokémon-related objects like Old Rods, Potions, PokéBalls, etc. Finishing the flier the receptionist met Dave with another cheery smile before saying, "Good luck!" and returning to working on her computer, a very zoned out look washing over her face after a few moments. Or she could just be playing solitaire. Who knows with that girl? Although a better question would be:

What will Dave do?

Having read the note, Dave watched as the slightly ditzy receptionist sat back down. Looking down at Pix, he saw that the Cleffa was looking as confused as he felt. "Err, alright. Thanks, I'll just have a look for them." he said, exiting the building.

As the trainer walked out, he sighed. "Well then, Pix, we'd best have a look for some trees with notes in. Let's go!" At this, the baby let out a cheer of his own. Looking about, Dave noticed a clump of trees not too far away, and set off toward them. A few seconds later, and he was there, looking around.

"Huh... there's quite a few trees, it'll take ages to search them all... What I need is an arboreal expert." he muttered. Pix let out a squeak, hopping out of Dave's arms, before jumping back up to hit a PokéBall at Dave's belt. With a flash of light, Ninjia appeared on the ground, sat on her tail-hand. The Aipom looked around cheerily, standing on her legs as she patted Pix on the head. Dave's smile grew a bit.

"Ah, great idea, little man! Ninjia, we're after a piece of paper that's in a hole in a tree, which has a question I need to answer on it. Think you can help us find it? You should be at home in the trees, after all." At this, Ninjia grinned, before leaping into the nearest tree, starting to check them. Dave also got to work, while Pix poked around the base of the trees. Hopefully they'd find something soon, working together.

Slightly confused about the competition Dave set out with Pix in his arms nonetheless. After finding a clump of trees and searching around them for a hollow spot with the help of their companion Ninjia the trio quickly found the first question. Ninjia was the one who found the hole as she was much quicker and more agile than Pix and Dave. The Aipom felt around the trunk of one of the trees with it's tail before it felt the wooden beneath it's tail weaken and bend. The Aipom pressed in with more force to confirm it's suspicions before quickly popping the hole in the trunk open with a Tail Whip. The neatly cut circle fell out of the tree and landed on the ground with a thunk which alerted Dave and Pix.

The purple little monkey Pokémon entered the hole as quickly as it could and soon found a rolled up piece of paper that was tied with an elegant red ribbon. She grabbed the paper with her tail and held it outside the tree trunk for Dave to take.

As Dave went to take the paper a figure exploded out from behind a nearby tree that the trio hadn't yet explored.

"SURPRISE, TRAINERS!" The man shrieked, attempting to scare Dave and his companions. He wore a black work suit with a burgundy dress shit underneath accompanied by a slick tie. "Congratulations on finding the first question!" The man continued, "Now you must open the piece of paper and read off the question to me. When you know the answer speak it aloud and I will tell you if you are right or not. Then you're free to go. Simple as that!" The man explained. "I know my presence wasn't included in the flier, but my boss likes to surprise his customers. Keeps them on their toes, he says. Anywho, I'm rambling. Get to that riddle, trainer!"

The piece of paper was a bit wrinkled and torn up at the edges. Unraveled it was revealed to be a very plain piece of paper with only a few words written in the middle of it. The words on the unraveled piece of paper read: "What English word retains the same pronunciation, even after you take away four of its five letters?"

Happy that Ninjia had met with some luck, Dave took the rolled-up paper, before being scared almost out of his skin by a guy hiding in the trees. As the guy read off his spiel, Dave spied both Ninjia and Pix chuckling out of the corner of his eye.

"Huh, alright then, here goes." he muttered, unravelling the ribbon and straightening out the little scroll. As his eyes travelled over it, he read it aloud. "What English word retains the same pronunciation, even after you take away four of its five letters?"

Dave then thought for a bit. So... it's got to be a one-letter sound... let's see, A... no. B... nope... C... no... he pondered for a while. After a few moments, he smiled, before looking up at the man.

"I think I've got it. Queue. Take away the two U's and E's, and you're left with Q, which is pronounced exactly the same. That it, sir?" he asked, explaining his logic, waiting for the man's response...

The man in the suit grinned as he heard the trainer quickly work out the riddle and speak the answer.

"YOUR APTITUDE FOR RIDDLES IS FANTASTIC TRAINER! YOU ARE CORRECT!" The man shouted, attempting to scare the trainer once again with a random outburst. He held out his hand with his palm open, ready to take the scroll back from Dave and place it back in the tree.

"Feel free to continue looking for the other two riddles, trainer. I can guarantee that there won't be anymore in this cluster here. Though you miiight wanna try those trees over... There." The man said, pausing slightly to scan the area. Once he had found what he was looking for he pointed to another few trees across and down the street from where Dave and him were. And with that the man saluted Dave rather randomly before creeping off rather oddly and out of sight back behind the trees.

With little other options presented to him Dave continued to the cluster that the man had pointed too where he found a few more trees. With his 'mon helping him out he quickly was able to locate and extract the next riddle from the second rigged trees. Once again Ninjia crawled into the tree trunk to retrieve the piece of paper for Dave whom respectfully took and began reading it after unraveling it.

"How many evolutions does the Pokémon Eevee currently have?" The paper read. As Dave finished reading it he looked up from the paper as a shadow crept over him. Above him was a rather tall man almost identical to the last one, though there was one painstakingly obvious difference with this man. He was missing his pants. He stood there with a rather curious look on his face as he eyed Dave, clad in a formal looking black suit and polka-dot red boxers. He had an excessive amount of leg hair that was completely exposed except for the space around his ankles where his socks thankfully covered some of it up.

"Now, before you say anything." The man spoke. The voice sounded almost identical to the previous man's voice. "I am not a rapist. Or a pervert. Or any of that. I work for Poketch, and I simply forget to wear pants today." He shrugged. "These things happen. You know what I'm sayin'?"

Faced with another question to answer and a rather peculuiar man, what will Dave do?

Dave smiled, happy to have the first riddle work out. The guy's outburst wasn't as scary as the first one, but it did cause him and his Pokémon to look at each other in a knowing way. Anyways, the trainer saluted back to the Pokétch worker, before following where he was pointing. Scooping up Pix, and Ninjia hitching a ride on his shoulder, he set off down the street.

After a few minutes searching, the Aipom dropped another scroll into his hands. Dave looked at the question, before finding himself face to face with a guy with no pants. Oh jeez. Hearing the guy's explanation, he shrugged back.

"Fair enough. I'm sure people have forgotton worse." he replied, before returning his attention to the question. "How many evolutions does the Pokémon Eevee currently have?" he murmured to himself. Well, there were three that evolved via stone... Vaporeon from Water, Flareon from Fire, and Jolteon from Thunder... two evolved from being happy... Espeon during the day and Umbreon at night... and two more that evolved in certain areas... Leafeon around the Moss Rock and Glaceon around the Ice Rock... That made up seven in total. He hadn't heard of any newer Eeveelutions, so he went with it.

"Anyways, with this question, I'm sure the answer is seven. Vaporeon, Flareon, Jolteon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon and Glaceon. That right, sir?" he answered, waiting for a response from the pantsless man...

The man with no pants nodded.

"Your pretty smart, I bet you never forget to wear pants." He said, rather jealously. "That's correct, let me take that off of your hands for you." He finished, holding his hand out for the scroll. "Now, you're gonna want to head back to the Poketch company and look around behind the building. There'll be a single tree with your final question in it."

With that the man without pants took the scroll from Dave and respectfully placed it back in the tree. He didn't creep off like the man before however, instead he simply leaned against the tree he'd just put the scroll in and crossed his legs while whistling to himself.

Once again with very little other options Dave headed off back to the Poketch company where he searched around the back of the building for the lone tree the pant less man had spoken of. This tree was rather huge and unique in comparison to the others Dave had searched. This one rose up high above the massive Poketch headquarters and contained many different branches that jutted out from the trunk. Getting up to the nearest one would be a bit of a task, but after that it looked relatively simple.

It took a lot longer than usual to find the secret compartment in this grand tree as the hole was located much higher up and required some careful maneuvering about the tree as to not fall down and plummet to your death. After awhile Dave and his crew managed to find it. The unraveled piece of paper revealed another riddle akin to the first one Dave had encountered.

"Paul’s height is six feet, he’s an assistant at a butcher’s shop, and wears size 9 shoes. What does he weigh?"

This time no strange man appeared to greet Dave, but instead a woman emerged from a balcony behind the Poketch company.

"Hey there!" She called to Dave. "Cool, it looks like your almost done with our competition. Just gotta answer that riddle then come on up here and meet the boss. Try not to think too hard about your answer, alright?

With his second question done easily, Dave was feeling confident. Making his way round the back of the building to find a huge tree, however, he felt slightly apprehensive. Nevertheless, he and his Pokémon eagerly looked for the riddle, before somehow managing to find it all the way up.

Hearing a voice, Dave looked round to where a woman was at the balcony. After she'd finished, the trainer looked back at the paper, reading it to himself. "Paul’s height is six feet, he’s an assistant at a butcher’s shop, and wears size 9 shoes. What does he weigh?" he murmured. He thought about it for a while, before facepalming. The answer was staring him in the face.

"Hey! I've got the answer! Meat! He works at a butcher's , so he weighs the meat, right?" he called, hoping that this was it, while trying not to look down...

The girl on the balcony nodded before shouting down to Dave.

"Yep!" She chuckled a bit, "I always love those trick questions. Alright then, come on up here and get your prize." The woman called rather calmly before turning back into the building.

With all three questions/riddles answered correctly it was time for Dave to go and receive his reward. A brand new Poketch! Firstly he would have to enter the Poketch building though, then travel to the top floor after telling the receptionist that he had completed the competition. Doing so would naturally take a bit of time as the Poketch headquarters were rather large and tall. Luckily Dave wouldn't have to take the stairs. The receptionist guided him to an elevator as he re-entered the building and relayed the required message. She stood beside him with her hands held behind her back, her head cocked upwards as she watched the display above the elevator door that specified where in the building the where, exactly. After a few moments that seemed to drag on forever the elevator finally came to a halt, giving off a faint ting sound as the doors opened and allowed Dave and the receptionist lady to exit.

As they did they were met with a wide corridor with doors lined along the sides. At the end was a large red set of double doors. After reaching them the receptionist lady politely opened the door for Dave and allowed him to enter first while following close behind him as he entered. Inside was a rather luxurious looking office with a massive window spread across half of the room that gave a beautiful view of the entirety of Jubilife City. Fancy furniture and decorations were plentiful as the sheer amount of things packed into the office was overwhelming. Despite the full look of the room it was still rather spacious as you move around inside it.

"Sir." She said in a more serious tone than she had used when speaking to Dave.

She need not say anything else as a man sitting at his desk looked up from what it was he was doing and grinned.

"The first trainer to undertake our little challenge and complete it." He said aloud, to nobody in particular. "I thought I told you to not call me sir anymore, Cecil?" The man said suddenly shifting his view to the receptionist standing meekly by in the corner of the room.

"Right, sorry sir. I mean Steve." Cecil said, keeping her eyes down.

"Hehe," Steve chuckled, "Relax. Try not to think of me as your boss, alright? I'm just regular old Steve. That's how it's always been, and that's how it'll always be. Oh right, you." Steve said, noticing Dave again. "Sorry about that, you want your Poketch right? Well, first I'll need to verify that you answered my riddles correctly. So let's here them answers." He said with a grin on his face.

Dave couldn't help but look around in awe at the Pokétch Building. It really was cutting-edge. Not to mention swanky. As he went in, he thanked Ninjia for her help, and recalled her to her PokéBall for later. Holding Pix in his arms, as usual, he followed receptionist into a lift, which took them up to the chairman's office.

This room was even more spacious. As Dave stepped forward, he heard the receptionist, now known as Cecil, converse with her boss. Who was called Steve. The trainer smiled as he heard that he was the first to complete the challenge, before nodding as the chairman asked for confirmation.

"Well, sir, the first question's answer is Queue, as the letter Q sounds the same. The second's answer is seven evolutions of Eevee, Vaporeon, Flareon, Jolteon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon and Glaceon. And the third's answer is that Paul weighs meat, as he works at a Butcher's shop." he answered, confidently, waiting for Steve's response.

Steve listened cautiously as Dave listed off the riddles, a large grin spreading across his face as he heard each of Dave's answers. Once Dave had finished Steve began to applaud Dave before beginning to speak.

"Bravo, good sir! Those are all correct. It's nice to see aspiring young trainers such as yourself with such sharp and intelligent minds. Cecil, the box please," Steve requested.

Cecil nodded before turning to a nearby cabinet she was standing by. She struggled a bit as the door of the cabinet was a bit stuck, making her recoil a bit as she finally opened the thing. She gently pushed the door open a bit more before reaching in and taking out a small boxed package covered in thin plastic that was easy to rip open. Cecil made her way over to Dave and politely handed him the package.

"Congratulations, sir! Here is your brand new Poketch. We hope that you make use of our product and enjoy it's capabilities to the fullest!"

"It's a pretty nifty little gadget that any Pokémon trainer should have with them." Steve said, with a cheery smile on his face. "It can be used for a ton of things, like if you need to make tough decisions there's a coin tosser application that comes pre-installed on it for your convenience. There'll be other apps out there for you to install to, you just gotta look around a bit. Anyways, please enjoy it. I'm quite proud of the product myself, so I hope it'll prove to be useful to you in your future endeavors!" He explained, "Cecil, please see our guest on his way out."

Cecil nodded, "Right this way, sir," She said before gesturing with her hand for Dave to follow her.

Congratulations! Dave has received a Poketch!

Quest complete!
